For the first time in over 21 years of my SCA career, I will be teaching a fiber arts related class at an SCA Event this weekend.
I have chosen to teach basic hand stitches for hand sewing, something I have been working to develop a better practice of using in my own sewing projects to give a more historically accurate finish to my work.
I am both excited and a little nervous about this new path. Can I really teach something like this in the time I have, 1 Hour? I have begun to question if I really can do it, I mean, I did a test project the other day and it took my relatively experienced hands almost 90 minutes to complete it, though I was a bit rusty at the time, I still have to factor teaching the material on top of the actual work. Like I said, this is my first time teaching this one, so of course I am going to be getting a little pensive, I am sure I can do it though.
I already have a 2nd session of the class lined up for the first weekend in February, but there I know I have been allotted 2 hours which I do feel a bit more comfortable about since I can take more time with the material then.
Ultimately I have only myself to blame, I should have realized I would need more time rather than less, but I suppose this will just be another learning opportunity.
Wish me luck,
